YOGA FOR PTSD

In this seven-part series, I’m sharing the yoga practices, breathwork, meditations, and other exercises that have helped me overcome PTSD and live a richer, more fulfilling life.

part one: safety + Self trust

In this part of the series, I give you several strategies to start building more self trust and to create an environment that feels safe and nourishing to you. This lays the foundation for the rest of the work you’ll do in this series. When we don’t feel safe, the body is in survival mode, and that’s all it cares about. We must feel safe before healing can occur.

part two: anxiety + hypervigilance

The classes in this part of the series address two of the most common and frequent PTSD symptoms: Hypervigilance and Anxiety. Hypervigilance is a state of hyperarousal. When we’re hypervigilant, we’re on constant alert, we tense up our muscles and have a hard time relaxing because we’re always waiting for the next bad thing to happen. This can create a lot of physical and mental distress. In these videos, we build on the lessons from part one to start soothing this symptom of PTSD.

part three: NIGHTMARES + INSOMNIA

Our brains use nightmares as a way to try to process information and integrate past trauma, but there are ways we can speed up this process and ease our suffering. In this part of the series, we’ll explore restorative practices, breathwork and meditations that help us to sleep more peacefully.

PART FOUR: physical symptoms of ptsd

PTSD can create a lot of uncomfortable physical symptoms. Nausea, headaches, digestive issues, muscle aches, chronic fatigue, chronic pain, and more. The classes in this part of the series help to alleviate the discomfort of these symptoms.

part five: flashbacks + disassociation

Possibly two of the scariest symptoms of PTSD, flashbacks and disassociation can leave us feeling so rattled, and the two often go hand in hand since flashbacks can trigger a dissociative episode. The classes in this part of the series invite you back into your body in the present moment so you can resolve these episodes more quickly.

part six: depression

Because of the brain chemistry rollercoaster PTSD puts us on, we can easily swing from anxiety to depression. Yoga gives us a set of tools that can help us to nurture and care for ourselves gently during these times.

part seven: self empowerment

In this part of the series, we explore what it means to set boundaries, how to get more in touch with your authentic self and release codependency so that you can live a life that you love.
